Why it matters
Listing groups are how you choose which products to advertise and, in Shopping, what to bid on each part of the catalogue.
They are also where products disappear without notice: an exclusion added long ago can keep a whole category off every campaign.
Where to find it in Google Ads
- In a Shopping campaign, open an ad group, then Product groups.
- In Performance Max, open an asset group, then Listing groups.
- Subdivide by category, brand, item ID, product type or custom label.
- Check which subdivisions are excluded.
An example
A shoe shop splits its Shopping product group by brand, then by custom label for margin. High margin lines get higher bids, and an old exclusion on one brand is found and removed.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the whole feed on one bid in Shopping.
- Excluding more than you include in Performance Max without noticing.
- Splitting so finely that each group gets almost no data.
Checks that look at it
