Why it matters
Shopping and Performance Max product ads are built from the feed, not from keywords. The title in the feed decides which searches a product can match; the image and price decide whether people click.
Feed problems show up as products limited or disapproved in Merchant Center, and as searches the shop never meant to buy.
Where to find it in Google Ads
- Open Merchant Center, then Settings, then Data sources.
- Check the update schedule and the last fetch.
- Review titles, descriptions, images, prices, GTINs and custom labels.
- Look at Needs attention for errors and warnings on products.
An example
A clothing shop rewrites its feed titles from Style 4521 Blue to Women's Linen Shirt, Blue, Relaxed Fit. Impressions rise because the products now match the words shoppers search.
Common mistakes
- Using internal codes as product titles.
- Letting feed prices or stock differ from the website.
- Leaving out attributes like colour, size or gender that Google asks for.
Checks that look at it
