Why it matters

Shopping ads show the product, the price and the shop before the click, so clicks come from people who already like what they saw.

Standard Shopping gives more control than Performance Max: you choose the products, set bids by product group and read search terms in full.

Where to find it in Google Ads

  1. Open Campaigns and filter by type: Shopping.
  2. Open a campaign, then Product groups, to see subdivisions and bids.
  3. Read the Products report for spend and results per item.
  4. Check search terms and add negatives.

An example

A garden shop splits its Shopping campaign by category and price band. Expensive barbecues get their own bids, and cheap accessories no longer take most of the budget.

Common mistakes

  • Running the whole catalogue on one bid.
  • Never reading the Products report.
  • Ignoring feed issues that keep products out.

Checks that look at it

Questions, answered.

Standard Shopping or Performance Max?

Performance Max reaches more channels with less control. Standard Shopping gives precise control over products, bids and search terms. Many shops use Performance Max and keep Shopping for specific lines.

Do Shopping campaigns use keywords?

No. Google matches searches to products from the feed, especially titles. Negatives still work.
