Why split brand
Brand searches convert several times better than everything else, because the person already chose you. Mixed in, they make a blended cost per conversion look healthy while non-brand search is expensive.
The finder counts a term as brand when it contains a brand name, with or without spaces, or a close misspelling of it.
Add a cost after each term, separated by a tab or a semicolon, to get the share of spend rather than the share of terms.

What share of spend should go to brand?
There is no right number. It depends on whether competitors bid on your name. What matters is knowing it, and judging brand and non-brand on separate numbers.
Does it catch misspellings?
Yes. A close misspelling of a brand name counts as brand.
