Why it matters
For a shop, clinic or restaurant, what matters is how far people will travel. Radius targeting says exactly that: people within 5 or 20 kilometres of the door.
Targeting whole regions instead pays for clicks from people who will never make the trip.
Where to find it in Google Ads
- Open a campaign, then Settings, then Locations.
- Choose Radius and enter an address or use your location assets.
- Set the distance, and add several radii for several shops.
- Check results by location to adjust the distance.
An example
A dentist sets a 10 km radius around the clinic. The locations report shows conversions mostly within 6 km, so the radius is tightened and the budget goes further.
Common mistakes
- Setting a radius far wider than customers travel.
- Using a radius on presence or interest, which lets in people outside it.
- Forgetting to add a radius for each location.
