Why Google shows it
Where it shows: in a notice at the top of Google Ads, and under Billing for payments.
- An expired card, or a card replaced by the bank.
- A charge declined for insufficient funds or the bank's fraud checks.
- A prepaid balance that ran out.
- Monthly invoicing with an unpaid invoice.
How to fix it
- Open Billing, then Summary, and read the message about the failed payment.
- Update the card or add a backup payment method.
- Make the payment that failed, or add funds for prepaid accounts.
- Ask the bank to allow charges from Google if it declined them.
What happens next
Ads usually start serving again soon after the payment goes through.
A backup payment method avoids the next outage. The days without ads also reset some momentum for Smart Bidding.
How to stop it coming back
Add a backup payment method and update cards before they expire.
Tell your bank that Google charges come from your ad account, so its fraud checks do not block a large charge after a busy month.
How Optizads catches it
Each morning Optizads flags an account that spent nothing the day before on a day it usually spends, which is what stopped billing looks like. When Google cancels the account outright, the urgent alert comes within the hour.
