Campaign ended: why it stopped and how to restart it.

Ended means the campaign has passed the end date set in its settings, so it no longer shows ads. Nothing is wrong with it; the date simply ran out.

Why Google shows it

Where it shows: in the Status column of the campaigns table.

  • An end date set for a sale, a season or an event.
  • A copied campaign that kept the end date of the original.
  • An end date set during a test and forgotten.

How to fix it

  1. Open the campaign settings and read the end date.
  2. If the campaign should keep running, remove the end date or set a new one.
  3. Check the budget, ads and promotion assets still fit today before it serves again.
  4. If it should stay ended, leave it: ended campaigns cost nothing.

What happens next

Once the end date is removed or moved, the campaign becomes Eligible and serves again, with its history kept.

Look at the promotion and sitelink text before restarting: an ended sale often still talks about last season's offer.

How to stop it coming back

Put end dates in a shared calendar with the person responsible for each, so nothing ends by surprise.

When copying a campaign, clear its dates first, then set new ones on purpose.
