Why Google shows it
Where it shows: as the policy named next to a limited or disapproved ad, or in a suspension notice.
- Excessive capitals, such as FREE or BEST PRICE in full caps.
- Repeated or unusual punctuation, such as !!! or an exclamation mark in a headline.
- Symbols, emoji or spacing used for emphasis.
- Text that does not make sense or does not describe a product or service clearly.
- Phone numbers written in the ad text instead of a call asset.
How to fix it
- Hover over the status to see the editorial issue and the field it applies to.
- Rewrite the headline or description in plain sentence case, with standard punctuation.
- Move phone numbers to a call asset.
- Save the ad to send it for review again.
What happens next
Editorial fixes are usually approved within a day.
Plain, clear wording also tends to read better to people, so the rewrite often helps results as well.
How to stop it coming back
Write ads in sentence case, with no exclamation mark in a headline, one at most in a description, and no symbols for emphasis.
Keep a short style note for whoever writes your ads: phone numbers go in call assets, prices go in the text as plain numbers, and every headline must make sense on its own.
Checks that catch it
Oppy runs these every week, so the status is found early.
- Ads Google has refused to show: Ads Google has refused to show, and the worse case behind them: an ad group whose only live ad is disapproved, so the group is off air while everything above it says enabled.
- Ads not using the space Google gives them: Ads using fewer headlines and descriptions than Google can combine, for example ten headlines and two descriptions.
