The short answer

In Edit my metrics, click Add a metric, then From Google Sheets to turn one column of your own sheet into a metric that is read again each night. Choose Calculated to divide, multiply, add or subtract two metrics. Each ad account holds up to 20 of each.

  1. Before you start

A sheet metric can come from three places. Connect Google Sheets in Settings, Integrations, then choose the file in Google's own picker. Paste the link of a Google Sheet. Or pick a spreadsheet already in the account's Library, such as an Excel file you uploaded.

Google Sheets access is read only: Optizads reads the sheets you select and never writes to them. Only the person who connected Google Sheets can pick from their own files. Teammates add a link shared with that Google login instead.

    The example on this page

Atelier Brume, a made-up furniture maker, logs every lead from its CRM in a Google Sheet: one row per lead, with Date, Source, Status and Quote value. Its owner wants qualified leads from Google Ads on the Overview, and then what each one costs.

  2. Add a metric from a sheet

    1. Start

Click Customize metrics, then Add a metric, then From Google Sheets. The window has three steps: Sheet, Columns, Display.

    2. Sheet

Choose a spreadsheet, then its tab. When several tabs are laid out alike, such as a month a tab, pick All tabs.

    3. Columns

Pick the Number to track, or Count the rows when each row is one thing. Then the Date of each row.

    4. Display

Name the metric, choose its unit, say whether up is good or bad, then click Add to the overview.

In Advanced options you can keep only some rows, change the date format, and say how rows that share a date combine. Atelier Brume keeps the rows where Source is 'Google Ads' and Status is 'Qualified', counts the rows, and names the metric Qualified leads.

How rows that share a date combine
    ChoiceThe day's value
Sum per dayThe rows added up
Average per dayThe average of the rows
Rows per dayHow many rows there are
Last value per dayThe last row's value
Highest per day / Lowest per dayThe largest or smallest row

The same rule then runs over the days of the period on the card. A sum metric adds the days, an average averages them, and Highest per day shows the highest day of the period.

  3. What the sheet should look like

One row per entry, one column of dates, one column of numbers. Optizads reads most ways a date is written: 2026-08-17, 17/08/2026, 17.08.26, '17 août' or 'Aug 17, 2026'. Dates are read day first. Switch Date format to MM/DD/YYYY if your sheet writes the month first. An impossible date such as 31/09 is skipped, not fatal.

Numbers can carry a currency or a percent sign, spaces or commas, and brackets for a negative. A row whose first cell reads Total or Grand total is never counted. A day found in several tabs counts once.

No date column? Choose Use the sync date. Each row then takes the day it is first read, and rows already there show from tomorrow.

  4. Build a calculated metric

    1. Start

Click Add a metric, then Calculated. The window has two steps: Formula and Display.

    2. Formula

Pick the First metric, the Operation (Divide, Multiply, Add or Subtract) and the Second metric. The window shows the result over the period as you choose.

    3. Display

Name it, pick its unit (Number, Amount, Amount to the cent, Percentage or Times), say whether up is good or bad, and add it to the Overview.

Each part can be a built-in metric or a sheet metric, never another calculated one, and the two must differ. The result is worked out from the two metrics' totals over the period.

    Cost per qualified lead

Atelier Brume divides Spend by Qualified leads. In September it spent €4,860 and logged 54 qualified leads, so the card reads €90, the month's spend over the month's leads. With 'When the number goes up, it's' set to Bad, the card shows a fall in cost as an improvement.

  5. Where you can use them

Sheet and calculated metrics show on the Overview, go in a report's Key figures card, and can carry a goal, tagged Custom on the Goals page. They do not go in the Performance chart. To count the account's main goal from a sheet rather than track a column, see Goals and the forecast.

  6. Limits and troubleshooting

Each ad account holds up to 20 sheet metrics and 20 calculated metrics. A Google Sheet picked from your files is read up to 12 tabs of 20,000 rows each.

The sheet could not be read. Try again in a moment.Check the sheet still exists. The metric keeps its old days meanwhile

Deleting a sheet metric used in a formula leaves that calculated card empty, and the window warns you first.

Questions, answered.

Anything else? Ask Oppy in the product, or write to the team.

Does Optizads change my Google Sheet?

No. Access is read only. Optizads reads the sheets you select and never writes to them.

How often is the sheet read?

Every night, and again when someone opens the Overview and the last read is over an hour old.

Can I use an Excel file?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx or .xls file to the account's Library and pick it as the spreadsheet. Every tab of it is read.

Is a calculated cost per lead an average of daily costs?

No. It divides the period's total spend by the period's total leads, so a quiet day weighs no more than its share.
