Why Google shows it
Where it shows: in the Status column under Goals, then Conversions.
- Enhanced conversions turned on, but the tag does not send customer data, or sends it in the wrong format.
- An offline import with errors, such as clicks that cannot be matched.
- Tag coverage gaps: the tag is missing on some pages of the site.
- Consent mode set up in a way that removes most of the data.
How to fix it
- Open Goals, then Conversions, select the action and open its Diagnostics.
- Read each issue and the share of conversions it affects.
- Fix enhanced conversions in the tag or Tag Manager, or correct the import file.
- Check the diagnostics again after a few days.
What happens next
Fixing these issues usually raises the number of conversions Google can attribute, which gives Smart Bidding better data.
Some warnings are minor. Prioritise the ones affecting a large share of conversions.
How to stop it coming back
Open conversion diagnostics once a month, not only when a warning appears.
When enhanced conversions or an import are set up, write down the fields they send, so a site or CRM change that drops one is noticed.
Checks that catch it
Oppy runs these every week, so the status is found early.
- Enhanced conversions available and switched off: Enhanced conversions switched off while the customer data terms are already accepted.
- A primary goal that forgets every click after a day: Primary conversion actions whose click window is one day or less, so a customer who comes back the next day is never counted.
