Why Google shows it
Where it shows: in the Status column of the keywords table.
- A very long or very specific keyword, often in exact match.
- A misspelling or wording that people do not use.
- A local or seasonal term searched only a few times a year.
- A product name that is new and not yet searched.
How to fix it
- Open Keywords and filter on the status Low search volume.
- Check whether a broader keyword in the same ad group already covers the searches.
- Replace the keyword with the wording people actually use, found in your search terms report or Keyword Planner.
- Pause the keywords that will never be searched, to keep the account readable.
What happens next
Google reactivates the keyword automatically if searches for it rise.
Low search volume keywords cost nothing, but a list full of them hides the keywords that matter. Most can be paused.
How to stop it coming back
Before adding a keyword, look up its volume in Keyword Planner and in your own search terms report.
Write keywords the way customers talk rather than the way the product is named in your catalogue. Long product codes and internal names are the usual source of this status.
Checks that catch it
Oppy runs these every week, so the status is found early.
- Keywords with no impressions in 30 days: Keywords that have stopped getting impressions.
- Keywords Google rates well that have not spent in months: Keywords Google rates well and shows, that have not spent in months.
