Why it matters
Several small campaigns with the same goal can pool their conversion data under one portfolio strategy, which gives the bidding more to learn from than each would alone.
Unused portfolio strategies cost nothing, so they pile up, and the next campaign can be attached to an old one with the wrong target.
Where to find it in Google Ads
- Open Tools, then Budgets and bidding, then Bid strategies.
- See each strategy's type, target and number of campaigns.
- Attach a campaign to a portfolio strategy in its Bidding settings.
- Remove strategies with no campaigns that you will not reuse.
An example
Three regional campaigns each get 10 leads a month. Under one portfolio Target CPA strategy, the bidding learns from 30 leads a month while each region keeps its own budget.
Common mistakes
- Keeping many unused strategies with vague names.
- Grouping campaigns with different goals under one target.
- Leaving strategies on types Google no longer supports.
